Trademark Application Advisory in Pakistan — Process, Fees & Timeline
Trademark registration in Pakistan is filed with the Trade Marks Registry of IPO-Pakistan under the Trade Marks Ordinance 2001. The process — search, filing, examination, journal publication, opposition period, certificate — typically takes 18–24 months for straightforward cases, with protection running 10 years from the filing date, renewable indefinitely. IMAAR handles the complete registration: free availability check, correct classification, filing, and every objection or hearing on the way.

Registration Process — Step by Step
- Search first. We search the IPO register for identical/confusingly similar marks in your classes. Filing without a search wastes fees on doomed applications.
- Classification. Goods/services fall into 45 Nice classes; fees apply per class. We select your trading classes plus key expansion classes.
- Filing (TM-1). Application filed with the prescribed fee; from this date you may use ™ and your priority runs.
- Examination. The Registry examines for distinctiveness and conflicts. Objections are answered through reasoned replies and, where needed, show-cause hearings — this stage decides most applications.
- Journal publication & opposition. Accepted marks publish in the Trade Marks Journal; third parties may oppose within the prescribed period. We prosecute and defend oppositions.
- Certificate. Registration issues; ® may now be used. Protection: 10 years from filing, renewable every 10 years.
Trade Marks Ordinance 2001 — registrability (ss.14–17), opposition, infringement (s.40), duration and renewal; Trade Marks Rules 2004 — forms, fees and procedure; administered by the Trade Marks Registry, IPO-Pakistan.
Fees & What Affects Them
| Component | What it depends on |
|---|---|
| Official IPO fees | Per class, per stage (filing, registration) — per the current IPO fee schedule |
| Professional fee — search & filing | Number of classes and marks (word / logo / both) |
| Objection reply / hearing | Only if examination objections arise |
| Opposition proceedings | Only if a third party opposes (or you oppose another's mark) |
| Renewal (every 10 years) | Official + professional fee at renewal |
We quote a fixed written fee for filing-through-certificate in unopposed cases before you commit — and tell you honestly at the search stage if your mark faces likely objections. Filing a word mark and logo separately doubles cost but roughly doubles protection; we advise per case.
For Exporters & Amazon Sellers
Trademark rights are territorial — Pakistani registration protects you in Pakistan. Amazon Brand Registry requires a registered (in some programs, pending) trademark in an accepted office, typically the marketplace country. We plan the combined strategy for sellers: Pakistan filing for home protection and manufacturing, plus destination-market filings sequenced by budget — the same team already serving Pakistani Amazon sellers through our USA services.
