What Is Recoverable
- Dowry articles — furniture, electronics, crockery, bedding and household items given at marriage;
- Gold and jewellery given to the bride;
- Bridal gifts received at the wedding;
- Personal belongings left at the husband's home;
- Value in money where articles were sold, consumed or damaged;
- Dower (haq mehr) — a separate right, pleaded distinctly in the same suit.
Family Courts Act 1964 — exclusive family-court jurisdiction over dowry and personal-property claims, expedited procedure, suit where the wife resides; Dowry and Bridal Gifts (Restriction) Act 1976 — regulatory framework; dower separately under the nikahnama and MFLO 1961.
Proving the Claim — With or Without a List
